A film about Zavattini – writer, painter, publishing director, cultural
operator and above all a moviemaker – needs, because of his personality, a narrative and directing
engagement that cares about his education, the contemporary history, his social and political endeavour,
the films he has realized, but also the great part of his works that is still on paper. As Zavattini
himaself will narrate with file footage interview.
With contributions of some friends, work partners, artists and literartes, the narration will go
along the years of Zavattini’s education (Luzzara, Alatri, Milano) and of the main movements of 1900
that fascist culture has never achieved to conceal; besides fascist movement coexisted with futurism
and many avant-garde facts that have led in Europe.
How can a surrealistic film such as “Miracle in Milan” be joined to realistic films as “Bicycle thieves”
and “Umberto D”?
Zavattini paid attention to the reality with a background of rich culture of all the moods of pictorial,
literary and cinematographic XX century. That get us understand that Neorealism was a great revolution
not only in style but also in contents.
